The Mississippi River here in our part of the world has been running very high for this time to year with the constant rains we have been experiencing lately. It has been 2 foot higher than normal for summer levels. Water temps are in the 80 degree range, and the hot, early spring have the weeds exploding. Fishing has been very good though. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing has been excellent, with 3 pound plus averages needed to win or place high in area tournaments. Walleye and sauger fishing have been slow with the high water temps. Panfish action has heated up, with nice catches of bluegills and perch being caught. Catfishing has been very consistent.
If you like frog fishing over thick vegatation, you'd love fishing here right now! Yanking those big hawgs out of it is a challenge! Early mornings have been good for schooling smallies and white bass on main channel weed points and rock bars.
Fall will be upon us soon, so get out there and enjoy the rest of the summer. Fall will be here before we know it, but that's my favorite time to fish both the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers here in SW Wisconsin!
Good fishing,
