Report for the weekend of May 1st . Fished the mid pool area on Friday afternoon. Water temps were in the 60 degree range again that day. Fished my smallmouth area I found last week and they were still there. Boated and released 5 nice fish, between 16 and 18 inches. Best bait was the rattletrap and a speed trap. Both chartreuse with blue back.

Saturday and Sunday fished the south end of the pool. Water temps dropped 5 degrees overnight. Saturday we had 17 largemouths, 1 smallmouth and 10 Northern. Best 5 bass weighed in the 15 pound range. These fish were caught on a variety of baits and patterns, ranging from main channel rocks to shallow weed beds. A black and blue swim jig produced the best. No huge northerns, but some pretty nice ones! Even ran into a couple of nice walleyes!

Today the bite was also pretty good, boating and releasing some nice largemouths. Took my grandson out for a few hours, and we caught a mixed bag, including perch, white bass, sheephead, northern , bass and red horse. A fun weekend! Bass fishing is getting better everyday.

Spawn time is just around the corner! For more information on fishing the upper Mississippi River in Southwest Wisconsin, give me shout!
