Spring is here in the North country of SW Wisconsin and the fish are biting! Water temperatures are nearing 60 degrees and the river is falling after being very high due to snow melt. The walleyes are nearly finished spawning and are now returning to downriver sections. Smallmouth bass fishing is tremendous right now. Recent trips have produced some nice bags. A few days ago we caught over 40 off of one spot! The majority were keepers with over 1/2 being over 3 pounds. What a blast! The best baits were a jig tipped with a white grub and a Strike King red eye shad. (1/2 ounce, chrome/blue) Prespawn, hungry largemouths are also biting pretty good right now.
Big perch and bluegills are being caught right now, with crappies starting to bite also. It's a great time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather along the Mississippi River. Morel mushrooms are starting to pop, so why not combine some mushroom hunting with some great fishing! I have open dates available, so contact me for more info.
Thanks for reading my reports and good fishing!
