It's been a long winter, but the river is open now below the dams on the Upper Mississippi River Pools 9 and 10 near LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Walleye and sauger fishing is getting started and we are having some good success. The fish are starting their annual migration up river and starting to feed up and get ready to spawn in a month or so. Recent trips are producing some nice fish in the 20-25 depth range and are biting hair jigs tipped with live minnows. The water is very clear and cold, so slow presentations are a must. Both vertical jigging and dragging have been working. Getting a few "bonus" catfish also!
I"m booking trips for the upcoming season, so If you want to enjoy some early season walleye fishing, give me a shout. This time of year produces some real trophy fish. Mid April will bring on the bass fishing season, with May and June bringing some fantastic action!
