Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 8/01/09 This past week on Guntersville felt like the middle of October, we had daylong rains and the wind blew hard out of the southwest for most of each day. The fish however kept on offering some great times, as we still managed 25 or more fish per day just about every day on the water. Even though we were pushed off the ledges for some part of each day with the high winds, we were able to find fish at some point during the day. I fished mainly the mid to upper part of the lake most of the week, the bass seemed to not get in a big hurry in the mornings as they seemed to turn on more about mid morning each day. With a lot of wind the spinner bait bite has been really strong over the top of the grass, we averaged 5 to 8 fish per day on spinner baits so if you have put your spinner baits up, rig one on again as the bite is strong. Our bigger fish this week have mainly come on Tight-Line jigs; the colors have been a variety from black and blue to crawfish. The bite though has been fierce, I had one hit a jig so hard last week it pulled the rod out of my hand and donated it to the bottom structure. Some great days this past week with some super folks from a variety of walks of life and I believe there are many more good summer days to come. If the wind and rain keeps up we will get into some early fall fishing patterns and it could get even better.
