Some November Tactics that Catch Fish Before the month ends I thought I would spend a little time describing some of the various successful tactics that catch bass in November and early December. The key to this period is to remember that the bass are feeding in the extreme shallow water. When you combine shallow water techniques with grass you start to limit the type of fishing presentations that will work effectively in the remaining grass. The first presentation to me is to find grass that has reseeded down from the top of the water 6 to 10 inches; this allows you to pull small short arm spinner baits over the grass. The good thing about short arm spinner baits is the pure fact that the blades do not gather the grass up on the blades nearly as much as a long arm spinner bait do. The flash added with slight deflection off of the grass causes strikes and some really good fish can be caught this way! Next is to find the fish in the middle part of the sunny type days we have in November. This time of day generally moves the bass a little deeper away from the sunlight and it is an ideal time to work rattle baits in 6 to 10 feet of water over short grass. You probably can’t fish anything heavier than ½ oz. but that is all you need to hook up with some good fish. As in the spring that yo-yoing motion will get the strikes so drop it and stop it, just a little quicker so you’re not hanging the grass. A good way not to hang the grass is to use a non stretch line as it will pull through the grass and keep moving. Lastly if you’re a jig fisherman, lay downs, boat houses and rip-rap are just loaded with shallow bass feeding before the winter pushes in. Pitch that jig in and around cover, work the corners and pylons around the boat houses very methodically and you can find a big stringer of fish. Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/8/10 With some drastic weather change, windy conditions and the pro’s all over the lake most of the week, I only spent a couple of days on the water with customers. The fishing remained extremely strong though as the numbers were near 75 a day, not any big monster bass but a ton of 3 and 4 pounders. It was a lot of fun catching fish sometimes every cast, hanging doubles and triples some and getting your hands raw from pulling off fish. We had a blast catching fish on many types of baits and patters, we would start the day most of the time with Punisher Spinner Baits, then some top water action, change and head to the grass edges pulling 8 ft. type crank baits along with Go-2-Bait worms. Everything caught fish, including Tight-Line Jigs in black blue and teal. The fish have moved a little off the flats to the edges and spreading the lake from all depths. The bigger fish are in 12 to 16 ft of water, and out there for the taking. Come fish with me fishing is great the good times are here and were having fun!
