Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/22/08

I only spent 3-days on the water this week and every day presented a different challenge. There is no doubt the bass have moved into winter patterns, the water temperature is in the high 40’s and low 50’s and bites are harder to find. The good news was everyday the bites came in streaks and bunches and you would have a slaying for about an hour then it would toughen up again.
I spent most the week in the mid and upper part of the river, working mainly slower baits and fishing with more patience than I have been. The bass are feeding and moving in the warmer part of the day, but you have to be on top them when they feed.
My most productive pattern this week was fishing jerk baits over the grass edges and points. We did however catch fish on Tight-Line jigs, Mister Twister Comida’s and at one point found some active fish that hit rattle baits.
The key is still finding baitfish, the bass may not feed all day around them but at some point during the day they will. The other key has been deep water, not necessarily in deep water but certainly close bye. The best of winter fishing is big fish the bigger bass are easier to find and so far this winter is no exception. We still averaging 15 to 25 fish a day but the quality of fish is getting better and will as winter goes on!
