img_0468-1.jpgThe early part of the week started slow, but by the middle of the week the bass were active and we caught them pretty good. We have had very little rain and the water is extremely clear; to turn the fall bite on we need some rain big time! The fall bite really gets turned on when we get a few fronts through, a frost would be great along with a good solid day of rain would be just what the doctor ordered.
I spent most the week working from one end of the lake to the other, I started out in the lower end and by Friday I was back up river. The consistent thing for me this week was water depth; we continued to catch fish in 4 to 9 feet of water. We worked top water early just about every day but by 10am we were back cranking and catching the better fish.
We did work several baits this week; Punisher Spinner baits were effective in the wind and Mister Twister Comida’s seemed to be effective also. Tight-Line jigs offered up some good fish around the grass edges in the hydrilla. This past week we averaged, except for one day, 20 to 35 fish a day and generally had 2 to 5 fish in the 3.5 to 5 pound range every day. The grass is dying off around some of the areas I have been fishing and it forced me to go a little deeper with my crank bait. The fish were still there just a couple of feet deeper than they have been.

The good news was the quality of the fish off the deeper edges was a little better than in the past. You can also still catch schooling fish; there all over the lake, I personally haven’t had the need to jump fish the schools but you can put a hundred fish a day in your boat if you do.
