Some November Tactics that Catch Fish Before the month ends I thought I would spend a little time describing some of the various successful tactics that catch bass in November and early December. The key to this period is to remember that the bass are feeding in the extreme shallow water. When you combine shallow water techniques with grass you start to limit the type of fishing presentations that will work effectively in the remaining grass. The first presentation to me is to find grass that has reseeded down from the top of the water 6 to 10 inches; this allows you to pull small short arm spinner baits over the grass. The good thing about short arm spinner baits is the pure fact that the blades do not gather the grass up on the blades nearly as much as a long arm spinner bait do. The flash added with slight deflection off of the grass causes strikes and some really good fish can be caught this way! Next is to find the fish in the middle part of the sunny type days we have in November. This time of day generally moves the bass a little deeper away from the sunlight and it is an ideal time to work rattle baits in 6 to 10 feet of water over short grass. You probably can’t fish anything heavier than ½ oz. but that is all you need to hook up with some good fish. As in the spring that yo-yoing motion will get the strikes so drop it and stop it, just a little quicker so you’re not hanging the grass. A good way not to hang the grass is to use a non stretch line as it will pull through the grass and keep moving. Lastly if you’re a jig fisherman, lay downs, boat houses and rip-rap are just loaded with shallow bass feeding before the winter pushes in. Pitch that jig in and around cover, work the corners and pylons around the boat houses very methodically and you can find a big stringer of fish. Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 7/10/10 Somehow, some way Guntersville is still producing in the extreme heat of the summer. Yes someday it can be a struggle, and during the heat of the day it’s tough on your body, but the fish are still biting averaging 15 or more fish a trip. You have to have some patience, understand that there is some down times but before the trip is over we have found them in several patterns. The morning bite has been mainly about top water bite, fishing Secret Weapon Buzz Baits over grass, or Tru-Tungsten Frogs, you just have to be out of the recent morning winds and the bite has been pretty good. Once the heat starts the Tight-Line jig bite has been strong working the grass edges, we are also starting to see the bass move deeper into the grass making flipping a technique of choice. If you want to stay off the grass we are finding remote structure with my Lowrance Structure scan and pulling Carolina Rigs with Go-2-Baits worms or cranking deep running crank baits over the structure. This past week we had 2 big 8 lb fish plus a 7 and several 4 and 5’s, so the size is still strong, fishing is great and we are having fun on the water. Come fish with me I have days available to fish with you! Fish Lake Guntersville Guide Service www.fishlakeguntersvilleguideservice.com Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 6/12/10 I spent many hours on the water this past week, I must say the heat was a real factor every day, severely limiting your ability to concentrate and perform the everyday fishing tasks with ease. The fishing had its ups and downs depending on the day, but we still averaged 15 to 25 fish a day, generally putting one good fish in the 6 pound range in the boat at some point during the day. I had several days where I was on the water for 12 hours with a couple of 6 hour trips a day. This allowed me to view a variety of bites, with the morning being the best some days and the afternoon producing better on others. The top water bite with SWL buzz baits remained strong many days and then late in the week they raised the water and it just killed the top water bite. The production for me with swim baits was probably the most consistent bite of the week, as most my customers were able to catch a big fish on a swim bait at some point during the day. Good fishing and good times, for most of the week. Protect yourself, use sun-screen, drink a lot of water and use some intelligence with the amount of time you’re on the water every day and you can still enjoy a day on the lake. Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/22/10 This past week produced some Guntersville hogs, with a couple of fish over 8 lbs and several in the 6 and 7 lb range, the lake keeps giving up good numbers with several days catching over 30 bass per day. The heat has yet to really slow the bite, and I expect the lake to stay strong at least for another month. Some great times, with some great people fishing different baits and styles and a variety of customers from Tennessee to Washington D.C. all had a great time. No matter what the skill or age or sex everyone had fun and caught good fish all week long. My patterns this week were a variety with some days catching them on SWL buzz baits, to Go-2-Baits big 13 inch worms, and some deep water cranking producing also. Fishing is great, there are many more great days to come and Guntersville is as strong as ever. Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/8/10 With some drastic weather change, windy conditions and the pro’s all over the lake most of the week, I only spent a couple of days on the water with customers. The fishing remained extremely strong though as the numbers were near 75 a day, not any big monster bass but a ton of 3 and 4 pounders. It was a lot of fun catching fish sometimes every cast, hanging doubles and triples some and getting your hands raw from pulling off fish. We had a blast catching fish on many types of baits and patters, we would start the day most of the time with Punisher Spinner Baits, then some top water action, change and head to the grass edges pulling 8 ft. type crank baits along with Go-2-Bait worms. Everything caught fish, including Tight-Line Jigs in black blue and teal. The fish have moved a little off the flats to the edges and spreading the lake from all depths. The bigger fish are in 12 to 16 ft of water, and out there for the taking. Come fish with me fishing is great the good times are here and were having fun! Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/1/10 This past week on Guntersville has once again exceeded all expectations; the lake keeps producing great catches and plenty of big fish. I expect that when the B.A.S.S. Elite show up this week that the catches will once again prove we have the best lake in the country. I would expect them to have record weigh-in amounts and catch hundreds of fish a day. Our biggest fish this past week was a little over 7 lbs. and we had several more between 5 and 7 lbs. throughout the week. We caught anywhere between 35 and 75 fish each day with my customers just wearing down from all the great catches. We caught fish on several types of baits, from SWL buzz baits, to Punisher Spinner Baits, Go-2-Bait big paddle worms to crank baits. All produced plenty of bites and caught big fish at one point or the other during the week. The only disappointing part of the week for me was the fact that it is time for the shad spawn to start showing up on the ledges but this has not happened yet. The result is we have not had the great ledge bite we generally get this time of year.
