Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/29/08

Early winter fishing this past week remained strong, as comparisons go, it is as good as I have seen it in the early winter so far this year. Past winters the early part has been questionable but not this year, it’s as good as I have seen and you’re missing some great fishing if you’re not out there on the water.
I spent the past week above BB Comer Bridge fishing grass and break lines, ledges, points and the deepest end of the creeks. Crank baits, jerk baits, Tight-Line Jigs, rattle baits and Mister Twister Comida’s have all produced bites. You have to work your baits with patience cover ground until you get a bite and work that productive area thoroughly as the fish have schooled up. The water temperature is much warmer in the main channel area, this suggests that you need to work the main channel areas early and move to the creeks about 11am especially if the sun is out.
Fishing is great and getting better, Guntersville will again produce some great winter fishing! I have days available to fish with you!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/22/08

I only spent 3-days on the water this week and every day presented a different challenge. There is no doubt the bass have moved into winter patterns, the water temperature is in the high 40’s and low 50’s and bites are harder to find. The good news was everyday the bites came in streaks and bunches and you would have a slaying for about an hour then it would toughen up again.
I spent most the week in the mid and upper part of the river, working mainly slower baits and fishing with more patience than I have been. The bass are feeding and moving in the warmer part of the day, but you have to be on top them when they feed.
My most productive pattern this week was fishing jerk baits over the grass edges and points. We did however catch fish on Tight-Line jigs, Mister Twister Comida’s and at one point found some active fish that hit rattle baits.
The key is still finding baitfish, the bass may not feed all day around them but at some point during the day they will. The other key has been deep water, not necessarily in deep water but certainly close bye. The best of winter fishing is big fish the bigger bass are easier to find and so far this winter is no exception. We still averaging 15 to 25 fish a day but the quality of fish is getting better and will as winter goes on!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/16/08

Cold, rain, wind constant temperature change really didn’t effect the past weeks catches. Fishing was excellent with good size tournament fish all week, and solid numbers of 15 to 25 bass per outing. With customers from all over the Southeast the lake held up for the most part and my clients had a great week on Guntersville. The bass weren’t everywhere but when you found them you caught several in a row before you would go searching again.
I spent most of the week in the mid part of the lake working 9 to 14 feet depths and found active bass in several spots. The back end of the creeks produced the biggest fish for me as the big bass are feeding and getting ready for the winter slow down. The females are getting nice and fat and are getting ready for the winter. A key for me this past week was getting away from the grass and into some deeper stumps, when I found this pattern I found bigger fish.
Fishing is good, there is more to come and the winter big bite is right around the corner. Working 15 feet of water with Tight-Line Jigs is nearly here and catching big fish will come with it! Come fish with me, I have days available to fish with you all through November and the rest of the winter!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/9/08

The past week was full of daily surprises as we had a different weather pattern just about everyday. We had warm sunshine, cold rain, wind, and cold days all presented different challenges on the water. The good news was some days it took a little longer than others but we figured out a pattern everyday and averaged 15 to 30 fish per day on the water.
It also seemed that the bigger fish were feeding and we managed to put at least a 4 pound bass and some times better in the boat on a daily bases. The pattern was pretty similar but the fish seemed to move from river channel to creeks and mouths of creeks on a daily bases, in fact one day they were scattered around boat houses.
The consistent pattern was water depth of 7 to 12 feet and most the fish were caught on my cranking pattern, as has been the case for several weeks. I spent the early part of the week up river and the later part in the mid part of the lake; grass points and ledges were the most productive areas throughout the week. We have a few more weeks before the fish move off the fall patterns to the deep and until then fishing will continue to be good. The size of the bass should start to increase as we get into winter and catching good quality bass will just get better as the numbers decrease on into late December.

Some good, some slow, some great describes this past week. The early change in nighttime temperatures brought the fishing to a halt early in the week. After a few days of stabilizing the temperature the bite came back. Early in the week we had to really slow our presentation down to get a bite and most the fish caught then were small. We fished Mister Twister six-inch worms, worked grass mats and edges and flipped Tight-Line Jigs in the pockets of open grass. In the middle of the week we were able to get back to a cranking bite, but had a hard time putting quality fish in the boat. By Friday it was game on, the crank bite was strong we were catching quality fish again and all was well except we were fighting high winds, rain and nasty weather. In other words the weather was just ”perfect” for a big bite and lots of fish! Low pressure, high winds, rain were just what we needed to get the bass moving and feeding.
Most of the week I worked different ends of the lake from upper to lower and found fish spread throughout the lake, fishing 9 to 15 feet of water most of the time. There is plenty of good fishing that still remains before winter sets in, come try it you’ll love it!
