Some November Tactics that Catch Fish Before the month ends I thought I would spend a little time describing some of the various successful tactics that catch bass in November and early December. The key to this period is to remember that the bass are feeding in the extreme shallow water. When you combine shallow water techniques with grass you start to limit the type of fishing presentations that will work effectively in the remaining grass. The first presentation to me is to find grass that has reseeded down from the top of the water 6 to 10 inches; this allows you to pull small short arm spinner baits over the grass. The good thing about short arm spinner baits is the pure fact that the blades do not gather the grass up on the blades nearly as much as a long arm spinner bait do. The flash added with slight deflection off of the grass causes strikes and some really good fish can be caught this way! Next is to find the fish in the middle part of the sunny type days we have in November. This time of day generally moves the bass a little deeper away from the sunlight and it is an ideal time to work rattle baits in 6 to 10 feet of water over short grass. You probably can’t fish anything heavier than ½ oz. but that is all you need to hook up with some good fish. As in the spring that yo-yoing motion will get the strikes so drop it and stop it, just a little quicker so you’re not hanging the grass. A good way not to hang the grass is to use a non stretch line as it will pull through the grass and keep moving. Lastly if you’re a jig fisherman, lay downs, boat houses and rip-rap are just loaded with shallow bass feeding before the winter pushes in. Pitch that jig in and around cover, work the corners and pylons around the boat houses very methodically and you can find a big stringer of fish. As each day passes, and with Spring approaching the rearview mirror, the fishing is getting better later and later in the day. Some of our friends over at Smalljaw have said that the night bite for them is on, with some catching 5 slots in just a few hours fishing. Bobby Gentry (Bobby Gentry Guide Service who's new website is launching shortly) took a father and son team out this week for their first ever guided trip, and their first time on the Holler. Read the review they left for Bobby in our directory and you'll see how much they enjoyed their trip - and by the way, Chuck Sr.'s 6lb. 1oz. smallie (pictured right) is a sure bet that they'll be back.

Flatts, grass, grassy flatts - you get the picture. Smallmouth fry hatch around the grass where they have cover from predators - this is where you'll find 'em. The weather has been pretty wet lately too, so keep in mind what we've said in other reports - the rain washes a lot of debris into the creeks and causes baitfish to feed up. People are having good days on shiners and flukes near primary and secondary points, and on a windy day grab your favorite spinnerbait (ours right now happens to be the new Punisher Guntersville Royal Shad) and hold on.

For the first time in over 20 years (some have said 20, 26, 30, 34 - bottom line, it's been a while) the Corp has opened the flood gates on the dam due to extremely high water levels. We waited to publish our report so we could include some pictures for everyone not lucky enough to see this historic event in living color. You can see a bunch of pics at the end of this report and can read the full story by the Dale Hollow Horizon by clicking here...

The big weekend is here - that is, the 1st Annual DaleHollowFishing.com Copeland Classic has arrived and with the new moon & awesome weather this weekend it should make for a killer first tournament. It's still not too late to register - you can register all the way up to launch on Saturday morning, so all of you guys that were waiting to see what the weather was going to be like, start making your plans. Cancel the BBQ this weekend with the neighbor you always talk about when they leave, call your favorite fishing buddy, pack up the pick-up, and get down to the Holler ASAP! There's a huge sale at the Dale Hollow 1 Stop all day tomorrow so you can stock up on your favorite tackle & accessories too, which is just another reason to get down here. To give you an idea, there's a $25 savings on the new Punisher CASTGLO L.E.D. fishing light just in time for night fishing, discounted spinnerbaits, power worms, hair jigs, and much more...DON'T MISS IT! For more info on the tournament click here.

Well, enough about the tournament, let's get down to business. We've all been waiting for that Spring awakening when the fish start hammering everything in sight and guys come off the water with that "OH YEAH!!!" look like they just hit the Mega Millions. Guess what...it's here, and it's going off this weekend. You've got several ingredients for that "perfect storm". 1 - The new moon. With the action delayed because of the flip-flopping weather, the moon phase will have even more of an impact on the fish. 2 - Weather. Studies have shown that the single most important factor that affects fishing is weather. When weather becomes more stable, so does the fishing. Big fluctuations in weather will cause fishing to be hit or miss, which is what we've seen in the late Winter/early Spring season. The weather has been pretty stable this week and the warm weather will cause the lake temps to rise creating more feeding activity.

Quote of the Week:
