Some Follow Up Tips on Muddy Water Fishing

As a follow up to my article on muddy water fishing I thought I would pass on some more information about muddy water that was passed on to me from the owner of Secret Weapon Lures. Some information that I believe could make a big difference on a muddy day on the water. Information that a good angler can use to his advantage and catch more fish.
The fact is that mud lines can be vertical as well as horizontal, has some interesting facts that allow you to find more fish. Muddy water actually warms faster than clear water and changes temperature faster than land because water is denser than land. This scenario allows for the water many times to be clear below the mud line, hence a horizontal mud line. So the inexperienced anglers fear that muddy water is impossible to catch fish is not necessarily true. As there may be a horizontal mud line that exists because of rain that is warmer than the lake water and this creates the horizontal mud line. The warmer water actually is not as dense as clear water and forces the mud line to stay above a certain point until it thickens and drops. Fish relate to the horizontal mud line just like they do to a vertical one and wait just below the mud line to ambush pray. So this brings the question, how do you find horizontal mud lines? The answer is very simple water temperature; by having a temperature gauge you can drop into the water you can easily find the horizontal breaks, the warmer top temperature vs. the bottom tells you a mud line is present and there is clearer water below. Combine that with cover below and you have an excellent area to find big bass in muddy water. Hope these few more tips help you become a better fisherman in muddy conditions. Thanks Joe Haubenreich of Secret Weapon Lures I failed to mention these things in my last article, and you very eloquently reminded me.
