CELINA- A Little piece of the community here could soon be in the hands of people all over the world, thanks to the efforts of a local business man,

It's hard to imagine something from a community of this size could actually make an impact on a world-wide market, but the opportunity was given to local outdoor entrepreneur Stephen Headrick.

Headrick has taken his Punisher Lures line of fishing products to a new level with the marketing help of Bass Pro Shops.

He found out last month his baits would grace the pages of the 'fisherman's bible' better known as "The Bass Book" -- a world-wide distributed catalog containing all the "must have" tackle and equipment for die hard bass fishermen.

"It's a lure manufacturer's dream," Headrick said, "and it feels even better to know the products are made right here in Celina."

He said all of his baits were made and packaged locally.  "We have a dozen or so employees who keep the operation rolling," Headrick said, "including several who do all of the jig tying."
The company started by filling a void in the tackle industry when they began making what Headrick calls a "specialty bait."

"There weren't many hair jigs being made and we decided to give it a shot," he said,

From that beginning, the business has taken off.

"It's taken us five years to get where we are today," Headrick explained, "but it's all been worth it."

Bass Pro Shops started carrying the Punisher line of jigs in their stores a year ago and with the baits coming out in the catalog this year, the hype surrounding the company continues to grow.

"The popularity of smallmouth fishing is on the rise and that's what our baits are made for," Headrick said.  "There was a need for a quality hand made hair jig and we plan to continue to meet that need for years to come."

When asked how he started doing business with the giant outdoor retail company, Headrcik said, "They contacted me because people were asking for the jigs by name."

Word had gotten out about the hair jigs made here through local sales in Headrick's store-- Dale Hollow One Stop, via nearly 100 other bait shops, and by way of the Punisher Lures website (www.punisherlures.com).

Now the company not only carries Headrick's original jig, but also stocks several other products made by Punisher.

The list includes float & fly jigs (lightweight flies), Punisher II jigs (winter baits with wire hooks), 'Hoss flies' (aspirin head jigs made famous by Billy Westmoreland), plastic chunks (trailers for jigs), rattles (trailer accessories), and, most recently, spinnerbaits.
