My Position on the Roseberry Creek Spraying Issue
Over my past articles on this subject I have tried to state a couple of things on the issue of spraying on Lake Guntersville. First, I find it hard to believe that this state has no laws limiting the ability for a property owner or a group of property owners from hiring or spraying around or near the lake anything they want to kill the grass. There should be laws and restrictions that no one can spray the lake with out over-site from several governing state agencies, proper permits and approvals. This lake belongs to the people and the people represent several different groups from fisherman to boaters and more.
Second that TVA has tried to back out of the managing body of Lake Guntersville over money. TVA is responsible for the lake; they should manage it with vigilance and provide a proper grass-spraying program that meets the needs of the fisherman as well as the boaters. They should protect the natural environment, and never let a rogue group of individuals kill the grass because they are not able to do what they want in a creek. Completely killing out a creek is like a tornado destroying a housing development, there is no place for people to come home to and the bass are no different. If man completely kills out Roseberry creek the bass will leave there and we will lose the best spawning ground on the river.
If people that live around a natural forest decided that in order to use the forest they wanted to cut down an acre of trees they would go to jail; yet we are accepting that they can kill the grass. Wrong extremely wrong and should never be allowed!
Lastly for the city of Scottsboro to be giving money to a rogue group of property owners that can’t use the lake the way they want to, is also wrong. Scottsboro city should be doing things to improve the lake for all; killing out a creek only benefits some property owners for their personal needs, not all of us who use the lake! The lake should be managed for boat-ways and use around boat houses, if the city wants to give money then let them pay for a proper managing program, not the elimination of the grass in Roseberry Creek for the benefit of a few.
